EDUCATIONAL RESIDENCIES & TEACHING

What Was It?
Residencies to create shows with groups of students or participants. Teaching on Further & Higher Education Modules, and with other groups.

Who Was It For?
BA students, MA students, professional artists and practitioners, teachers and lecturers.

When Did It Happen?
Any time of year, depending on our other projects.

We worked regularly with Universities and other institutions throughout the UK and internationally, to deliver professional standard practical projects with BA and MA students, artists and other participants. Our approach to these projects focused on providing a process that encouraged the students to develop their own material, sometimes solo, sometimes to fit within a group framework. Resulting projects ranged from large scale group shows, intimate audience encounters, site responsive projects and durational performances.

We also jointly delivered timetabled modules introducing and developing devised theatre, and supervised the production of students’ own group and solo projects.

Our aim in all of this work was to:

  • enable and support the students’ creativity
  • encourage exploration and experimentation
  • enable participants to recognise that their own thematic and formal interests are the most valid areas for exploration
  • encourage them to ask more questions of the world around them
  • encourage initiative, independence, collaboration and hard work

Testimonial: Dr Andrew Head

As a University academic, I have worked with Third Angel for well over a decade on a number of projects that have been commissioned as part of our commitment to the facilitation of undergraduate engagement with professional theatre artists - especially in the final year of their studies. In my opinion, their educational outreach work is second to none. Not only is their creative innovation superb - they have consistently produced startling visual spectacles with large student groups - they also provide specifically targeted and excellent instruction for finalists looking to establish careers in the Arts industry. As a long-standing feature of the contemporary performance landscape, they are an important company and my students have almost without fail valued their practical insight and wisdom as well as their artistry.
