The Desire Paths at Self-Build Utopias

In the summer of 2019, we created The Desire Paths: Newcastle/Gateshead as part of Self Build Utopias, a collaborative project combining exhibitions, installations and performances, which tried to imagine a more creative, sustainable and fun future.

The collaborating artists were: 154 Collective, Simone Ferracina and Pierangelo Scravaglieri, Hannah Fox, Unfolding Theatre, Sonia Hughes, Northern Stage’s Young Company and Third Angel.

We chalked out a map of the centres of Newcastle & Gateshead, and invited visitors to rename a street after a hope, dream or ambition they have for the future.

The map then stayed in situ for the following eight weeks, incorporated into the work of the other brilliant and generous artists.
